friday we headed out to Smith's Family Farm to purchase our Christmas tree - making this a family tradition, for sure!! We originally set out to Valley Oak Nursery, but they were just setting up trees at 4pm, w/a stunned expression on their face as if it was July?! So we headed up Lone Tree Way to another tree lot, they had one decent tree - out of about 20. But no wreaths - and advising me that the owner plans to start making them in a week - HELLO??? people, Christmas is only a few weeks away - what are we waiting for, the economy has been bad, but it's not going to help your business if you slack, Turkey's must have really been pumped up w/tryptophan or families were hitting the liquor cabinet on Thanksgiving!
I remembered how nice the Smith Family Farm's pumpkin patch was, and as the light bulb began to brighten atop my big dome we were off! Now this is what I call a Christmas tree lot! Santa visits every weekend until December 22nd, the owner hand makes each wreath to your liking (I decided to make my own w/all the extra branches snipped from the bottom). We loaded the back of our truck a 10 1/2 foot douglas fur - BEE-U-TA-FUL!
...let me just mention that 3 grown men (one even wearing dark sunglasses as if he was Corey Hart) were struggling w/this tree and I was worried about how Brian and I were going to get this monster into our house. Well, these men must have either: 1.) Been tired of hauling trees all day 2.) Drank spiked egg nog and a wee bit tipsy at 5pm. 3.) Old and out of shape 4.) Wimps! OR 5.) expecting a tip! ... I'm not saying I'm ready to be a contestant on Gladiators, and I was at the tip/top of the tree - it wasn't that heavy! ;)
earlier that day we purchased many hors d'oeuvre's at Trader Joes and a few bottles of wine to enjoy while we decorated the tree - however the night was cut short because Brian was so exhausted from standing in line at Best Buy since 1:30am for the Black Friday deals - deals my ass - it's just a gimmick!!
saturday night was part 2 finishing our tree/house decorating - along w/Christmas music, more hors d'oeuvres and a bottle of champagne...concluding the evening watching the Fred Claus movie!
