Aquarium of the Bay

One more delayed (still photo(s)) post... Saturday, July 18th, we ALL enjoyed a day San Francisco! After an open-call model search, which unfortunately the girls did not get a contract, but were asked to return for their spring featured search :) - fingers crossed! We headed to fisherman's wharf for lunch. We opted for Hard Rock Cafe - and although this was super expensive, the girls had fun looking at all the musical displays and danced in their seats while they waited for the food. This was smack in the middle of Brian's diet - so as he ate his pre-made lunch I indulged on some pork nachos!! We decided to check out the Aquarium of the Bay's marine animals, near Pier 39 instead of cruising around the pier(s). First, was an introduction to the distinctive ecosystems that support an incredibly wide variety of marine life. The girls found Nemo, a swirling schools of Anchovies, giant Sea Bass and colorful Sea Stars! Sierra is pointing out a crab, and retelling the times Brian & I have brought home live crabs to eat! We then entered the first of two crystal clear tunnels, 300 feet in length, where we were surrounded by 700,000 gallons of filtered Bay water and more than 20,000 aquatic animals! Through the second tunnel we saw some mysterious marine life that live in the Bay's deeper water - from ginormous sevengill (whereas most have 5 gills) Sharks to Bat Rays and Giant Skates, which we learned Skates, resembling stingrays, live in cold seas; whereas rays live in warm seas and in some tropical rivers. A grotto-like Giant Pacific Octopus exhibit was at the end of the first tunnel, where you can take a peek underneath the tank. Our final stop was the Touch the Bay, an interactive exhibit where you're able to touch land animals like Blue Tongued Skinks, California King Snakes, Bat Rays, and Marissa was very excited to touch the Leopard Sharks. Sierra was too short, and scared. Here are some gliding Moon Jellies and Brown Sea Nettles. On our walk back to the car we came across the Pier 39 playground, with a play structure and a really cute play house built of metal and surrounded with ivy.

For a second I thought in that last picture it looked like Marissa was flipping off the camera!

amber- HA! It totally looks like she is flipping us off, the expression on her face isn't helping either! I didn't notice it until you said something.
