Girl Scout Toy Drive

On December 2nd, Marissa's Girl Scout Daisy Troop along with many other local troops attended a Girl Scout inspired Toy Drive. Each child was asked to bring an unwrapped present and a chance to meet Santa. As much as I thought this would be a great event for the girls to participate, I wanted to kick myself - worried the girls would definitely think twice about believing in Santa.

The girls were very confused as to why they needed to bring presents to Santa for Santa to then in turn give the unwrapped present to families in need. "Doesn't Santa give presents to every child?" asked Marissa. I quickly put my mommy brain into turbo boost, and explained that "Yes, Santa does give presents to every child on Christmas eve, however, mommies and daddies also want to give presents to their children, and unfortunately not all mommies and daddies work, or have enough money to give their children a special present on Christmas.

Marissa looked at me thinking about what I said, and her response was "Oh, kinda like when Sierra and I give each other gifts, or gifts I got for you at the school store, and how I asked for you to get me a baby pillow pet?" I said, "Yes, exactly, and if you (we) didn't have money to do that you may be one of those children who would receive one of the special presents we gave today." Even though Sierra and her friend Brooke are not Daisies, they were allowed to participate in the event and bring a present. A few of the junior/senior Girl Scout troops hosted the event and also had crafts for the participants to enjoy. Every girl decorated paper angels to hang on a Christmas tree. This is a picture of Marissa and Sierra's angels. Marissa and Sierra meeting Santa - and OOOH WEEEE, was this a strange looking Santa's helper, us parents couldn't help but wonder where he was hiding his flask?! LOL! A few of the kids were even scared to photograph with him. Here is a picture of Marissa and her fellow Daisies! The girls made a hand print wreath, a mini Madagascar clothespin doll ornament, and a jingle bell necklace shown in this photo. Marissa, Sierra and Brooke excited to ring their bell! At the conclusion the girls were given milk and cookies. Afterwards, Brian the girls and I enjoyed some family time and Roundtable pizza, and played headbanz while we waited for our pizza. We enjoyed dessert at the girls favorite frozen yogurt shop, Menchie's! This location has a chalk board to draw on, and board games. Marissa and Sierra began photographing the images on the table top. Here's one of many - HA!

The next morning the girls had some fun decorating some old baby undershirts - using fabric paint to hand paint images with stamps and brushes. Once dried the girls dressed their baby dolls and build-a-bear with their very own runway project - LOL!
