On Saturday, our family was welcomed to the Carter's Anchor Bay hideaway (campsite) where they have an RV. Since it was up North, we anticipated COLD weather, so camping was out of the question. Being that Bodega Bay is only a hour and a half away, we decided to spend the day at Anchor Bay, and sleep at a family friends beach house in Bodega Bay. The Robert's minus Melanie also joined us for a day of fun in the sun!

How lucky were we to have picked the most beautiful January weekend I've seen in years to spend the day at the beach!! I warned Marissa that we'd only be able to go tad pooling and find rocks - but I was wrong - the kids wore their swimsuits, were buried in the sand, created sand castles, sand gardens and wave chased in the ocean! Whodathunk!? ~~Global Warming - the documentary I watched on the Discovery channel is starting to make sense - wrapping Greenland w/glacier blankets.~~

We look forward to going many more times this year - plan to rent an RV so we can hang-out and chill, Brian can go diving/fishing with Jason and a chance for Melanie to come!

On Sunday, we woke up to another beautiful day - and hurried for breakfast so we'd have plenty of time to spend a day at the beach. Unfortunately it was windy so we weren't able to stay very long. The beaches set in a cove like setting were only rock beaches, which the girls weren't thrilled about - although Hobie enjoyed it! As we packed our bags to go to the next beach we noticed police, rangers, and ambulances just past our beach house. The nosey biotches that we are, we decided to check out the scene. Our neighbor was frantic insisting that a diver had been in the ocean for over 2 1/2 hours and she became worried and contacted the authorities! Just as Brian located binoculars to observe the situation, our neighbor informed me that the "Diver" was only a Crab Box! HA! She was very embarrassed, but at the same time proud of her actions.

While Brian proudly flew his kite, and after about an hour and a half of sand castles and barbie burials, Sierra and Marissa couldn't take the sand blasting in their eyes any longer.

Just as we began to pack up our beach toys, two biker dudes came headed our way to inform us that a whale had been in the ocean. OMG the site was beautiful, apparently this is the perfect time of year for whale watching.

We of course could NOT resist purchasing fresh local crab for dinner, and ended our Sunday evening w/a bottle of champagne toasting to a wonderful weekend!

Sounds like you had an eventful Sunday as well! It was my first time going to the ocean at this time of year so I didn't know it was the time for whale watching either! I guess we just missed the whales and dolphins that came through near Anchor Bay. :( Good thinking picking up some fresh crab on the way home, next time we'll have to get smart and grab some too!
