During Marissa's spring break we spent one day at Berkeley's Lawrence Hall of Science - the girls had won free admission tickets during Brentwood Library's 2010 summer reading program, which was a savings of almost $20 - score!

The outdoor plaza had a giant DNA molecule sculpture - which represents genetic material from an enzyme in human saliva that breaks down starch into sugar, beginning the process of digestion.

The girls had a whale of a time climbing along the back of Pheena the fin whale model - found in every ocean, fin whales are the second largest whales in the world after blue whales!

As we entered the exhibit the girls had fun exploring the many hands-on engineering activities. One of the girls favorite exhibits was balancing a beach ball with an air machine.

Brian and Marissa had fun learning how to build to bridges.

Here the girls built sculptures with Kapla [Dutch for "pixie planks"] building blocks.

Outdoor we enjoyed learning about forces that shape the bay area, with earthquakes, erosion, wind, and weather.

Here's a photo of the girls beside a life-sized giant squid sculpture at the creatures of the abyss exhibit.

The girls pose with a panoramic view of the entire bay.

Lastly, we enjoyed forming our bodies into their pin wall - Brian indicated that I posed incorrectly (being the tallest). Oh well, I can dream, right! :)
