wine gets better with age....

Seems not only has my birthday changed from the 17th of April to the 9th of April, but I now have a tradition to enjoy while I celebrate.....WINE and Breakfast!

Last year we ended-up at the SF Vintners Market the morning after the Citizen Cope concert in San Francisco. This year the Vintners market at Fort Mason [a farmer's market style shopping experience where wine enthusiasts can sample and buy wines from over 200 wineries], just so happened to be on the same weekend and since Brian and I enjoy wine, what better way to celebrate my birthday, spend 2 days in one of our favorite cities, and enjoy a mini-getaway together! This year everyone received a souvenir glass to taste the various wines at the festival. We were more selective of booths and types of wine, and after many glasses of wine had no luck finding a tasty chardonnay, but scored on a some fabulous Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Just as last year, whom ever we purchased wine from we took photos with the owners. Here I am with Danette, of the Desmond estate vineyards, after purchasing a case of their 2007 Pinot Noir. Here I am with David, winemaker of Palladian, after purchasing a case each of their 2004 and 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon.

Afterwards, from Fort Mason we walked toward the Embarcadero, but only made it nearby Ghirardelli Square because we didn't want to miss our 5:30pm reservation of La Mar! OMG!!! This restaurant is 5 stars (at least that's what we've decided!!). Located on the Embarcadero, La Mar Cebicheria Peruana restaurant is inspired by the thousands of cebicherías found throughout Peru - simply delicious citrus based marinade fresh fish! We started with some drink(s) HA!!....I had their Pisco Punch; colorless grape brandy w/pineapple syrup and lemon juice, Brian had their Pisco Sour! YUM!!!! Waiting for our numerous orders of cebiches (aka: ceviche)......and drinks, or after dinner. I can't seem to remember when this photo was taken. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs, and since we were only able to take one spoonful from our entrees, we decided to take the leftovers home and also decided that a walk back to our hotel to burn off some calories would be a better idea. We conveniently walked passed a Safeway to pick-up a bottle of champagne and some chocolate for a bedtime snack, and as we neared our hotel we walked past Macy's awesome indoor floral window display! Once at the hotel, we poured a glass of champagne, got comfortable, ooh and I almost forgot...I found a fedora tumbling like a tumble weed in the parking lot as we exited the vintners market. Nobody claimed it, so I dusted it off and voila - it fit! So much for a party night, we fell asleep around 10:30pm and the next thing we know it's morning and off we were to the Red Door Cafe - our favorite breakfast eatery in San Francisco!!! Happy 38th Birthday to me! :)
