a fall to remember..... almost a KO!

The evening of July 29th, the girls were arguing over a puzzle and WHAMO! Sierra nearly is rushed to the emergency room!

While I was preparing dinner for Brian and I, Marissa and Sierra were fighting over a puzzle near our fireplace, the next thing the house shook, well a large thump, ok Sierra slipped on the puzzle and crack open went her forehead!

I rushed into the room, pissed at myself for not demanding she return to the table to finish her pasta dinner, or that I didn't turn the Wii game on so they could play mario kart..... well I was waiting for her to finish her dinner!

I quickly pulled her up in my arms and held her tight, Brian was just returning from a quick errand, hearing the truck pull into the driveway, I walked out into the garage in TEARS, saying "OH MY GOD", turning around "LOOK!" Brian said go back inside, hurry!! We sat Sierra on the kitchen counter and placed a towel wrapped with an ice pack on her head to stop the bleeding. Sierra kept looking at me weird - and Brian said "Go clean-up". I hadn't realized my neck, shoulder and left arm was covered in blood!! I was so worried about Sierra and the blood on her face, and mouth, making sure she didn't do more damage than I had first seen - that I hadn't even noticed the blood on myself. Brian got the bleeding to stop, then sat on a chair - his face was pale and felt faint. We shinned light in her eyes, to be sure she didn't have a concussion, and drilled her with a ton of questions - the one she would get wrong, my actual name! Marissa gave her a hint, and she'd say Torina, but it kinda freaked me out. Once Sierra sat on the couch comfortably, beside Marissa and playing Mario Kart, Brian and I, searched the Internet, paced the kitchen debating on whether we should take her to the emergency room, so we did the next best thing, contact my good friend Melanie, a nurse! I texted a photo of Sierra's booboo, and Melanie graciously calmed our nerves assuring us what we were doing was fine and that if we couldn't get the bleeding to stop to take her in for stitches, otherwise basically keep her home and cozy!

Of course I had Sierra sleep in our bed, and what happens, she falls out! REALLY!! Every so often she sleeps in our bed and never falls out, but that night she does. I quickly jumped out of bed trying to catch her - thankfully I had an extra pillow on the floor beside her side of the bed. Sierra wakes-up and says "Well, at least I put my hands down this time" - she has a good sense of humor!

The next morning we kept asking that she rest, but no she was acting as if nothing had happened - - like tumbling, forward rolls, spinning to an oblivion in the living room to music, and jumping from Brian's sub woofer! Kids have so much energy - fearless, no pain no gain!! My bump and bruise near my eye from Sierra cannonballing on top of my face instead of inside the pool, 3 days prior, seemed less important, but I still secretly wanted to be lazy on the couch sighing that my head hurt!

Marissa was so awesome, motherly, giving Sierra stickers to place on top of a boring brown bandage, saying the stickers were "Cups of Love"! Monday morning I took Sierra to the doctors just to be sure we had correctly cleaned the boo boo [laceration]. Unfortunately, her doctor said we should have taken Sierra to the ER. That with any injury to the face especially the large cut on Sierra's forehead a glue stitch would have kept the skin together instead of open having a much more risk to scar. Her doctor tried pinching the cut together (EWWW) and use butterfly band aids, which didn't work (that made me woozy, I had to sit down felling dizzy - I have so much respect for doctors and nurses). The doctor decided it would be best to prescribe antibiotics to kill any bacteria, and suggested we use water proof band aids to eliminate sweat and dirt accumulating inside the bandage.

On the bright side, today after cleaning and re-bandaging - it's amazing how well the cut is healing with possibly 80% chance of not even scaring!! And, don't get me wrong Marissa also had a few scary falls, cuts and bruises as did Sierra, but this one was blog worthy! I hope to never post a story like this again.
