Here is proud mommy Marissa with her 2 sunburst platy fish, named, The Erica Twins. Who gave birth to approximately 50 fish the next morning after we brought them home from Petco. Marissa thought for sure we picked the 2 most luckiest fish in the store!

We were warned that the fish may eat their young, and should move the baby fish to another fish tank. Brian and I were not going to buy a tank just for the sake of saving a few fish. We decided to take the chance and hope that a few survive.

Well...after about a month, 1 lonely baby fish was fighting to stay alive, but did not make it. Marissa wasn't as heartbroken as I had imagined she'd be. I had already explained to her what might happen and every morning she'd go to the tank and we'd sit together and say "looks like the mommies ate a few more of their babies". We even tried feeding the fish more food, but it wasn't working.

I think next time I'll try to at least put one fish in a bowl until it grows strong enough to survive the strength of their mother...this should be a lesson to my children - I may one day eat them if they don't behave - HA!

You would not want to eat them... To much sugar is hard on our stomaches and those two are sweet as it gets. Instead of another fish bowl u can use a small screened area in the current tank to house the babies in with mom until the babies are large enough to fight mom off...
greg/amy! Oh my goodness I never thought of a screen what a good idea - damn! I hope the both of you had a wonderful anniversary!! ;)
