On October 22nd, the last weekend of fall break Brian, the girls and I met Grammie and Grandpa at Contra Loma for their 24th Annual Fishing Derby.

The Derby was packed this year with almost 400 people in attendance - the weather was the best they have seen in years, so when a Free event is announced all come out of the woodwork's!

Thankfully Grammie and Grandpa hustled to Contra Lome to register the girls and reserve a picnic table to BBQ. We arrived shortly after 10am - the event ended at 12pm.

The California Striped Bass Association hosted the 24th Annual Kids (ages 3-12) Free fishing Derby. The event included free lunches for all kids, adult lunches were also available for a small fee. Free bait, rods and reels were also available for use.

Prizes were awarded, and goodie bags for all the kids were given - each kid had one chance to pick a colored marble from a bag, each color represented a prize; Fishing Reel, Tackle Box, Bass Fishing Hat. The girls posed with Black Bear (from the Oakley diner, which we were given a coupon for free kids meals!)

Trophies were awarded to one child in each of the three age groups for largest fish caught. We weren't so lucky, but it sure was fun trying!!! Can't wait for next year!

The girls each had 3 opportunities to catch a fish, we had to wait in a super long line for their age group - which of course us adults took turns waiting, while the girls played and enjoyed the other activities such as face painting,

Snow White even made an appearance to showcase her face painting skills! :)

Paper Fishing,

and a raffle. The girls won a Spongebob Fishing pole and tackle box!

Once the event was over, Brian and I took the girls for more fishing using Sierra fishing pole she had won picking the winning marble! Marissa won a white Bass Pro Shop hat - which we forgot to photograph.
