I actually took Marissa for her first dental exam in 2007 when she was 2 years old. Marissa was scared to death! She held onto me so tight and the dentist was only able to count her teeth and suggest I try again when she is 3 years old. Of course that came and went, as did 4 years old - Marissa was still soooo scared, so I never even scheduled appointments.
This year, Miss Big Girl Marissa, was ready for a real exam. Of course when we entered the office she became scared, and clung onto me, but quickly became more comfortable after she meet the assistant/hygienist.
Marissa sat on the chair, me beside her as she held my hand! The hygienist cleaned her teeth and brushed them w/cheery toothpaste. I was so proud of Marissa, not once did she cry or complain.
Here she is getting x-rays!
The dentist gave Marissa a gold star for not having any cavities!! Of course both Marissa and Sierra picked prizes in the goody toy box!
Afterwards I asked Marissa what she thought about the dentist, and she said she wasn't scared, but wanted to spit a lot because she didn't like the toothpaste that remained in her mouth and, that she actually LIKES the dentist, but was a little bummed out about not getting a purple dinosaur rinse cup and purple 2 minute hour glass timer like she did when she was 2! I told her it was because she already receive one, but that she'll get a new toothbrush and prizes at each visit. She's actually looking forward to her next visit! YEA!!!
